NYDN: From Print to Webpage to Mobile - Graphics & Readability in the Digital Product Workflow

Right now my job at NYDN is about repurposing print news graphics for NYDN.com web viewing.

Since the print format can often have graphical elements dispersed around the print page layouts, the elements need to be reorganized and branded for web page placement, readability and Daily News brand recognition.

I am not always creating the original graphic, but I am creating patterns of presentations that feature the spirit of the news story, wrapped together in a pixelated 72 DPI panel - ready for Graphical User Interface (GUI) upload by story editors.

The pieces range from photo collage elements to formatted text quotes and extracted facts from the daily/hourly stories, sometimes incorporating a clever headline from the printed page.

My ultimate goal is to make the panel readable in text and concept to the NYDN web page and mobil phone app audience. I was going to say reader, but putting visual appeal and immediate recognition of the story's meaning is primary, so audience seems like a more appropriate word.
